Desk Report : An outbreak of rotavirus has occurred in Brahmanpara, Comilla. About 20 children are being admitted to various private hospitals including the Upazila Health Complex every day due to this virus. Doctors claim that the children are easily affected by this virus due to the lack of official vaccination of this virus.
On the ground, it can be seen that the parents of rotavirus infected children are flocking to government hospitals and other hospitals every day to seek medical care. If the condition worsens, many are admitting their children to the hospital. Some are flocking to ICDDRB in Chandpur hoping to get better treatment. However, most of the patients recover and return home within a short period of time.
Doctors say that Ursaline is the main medicine for diarrhea. Ursaline plays a major role in treating dehydration caused by diarrhea. But if the patient starts vomiting more then the patient should be brought to the hospital. Otherwise, the concerned doctors advise to take treatment at home.
Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Abu Hasnat Md. Mohiuddin Mubin said, Rotavirus outbreak occurs more or less every year in winter. Most children suffer from diarrhea, vomiting and breathing problems due to this virus. In such a situation, the patient suffering from diarrhea must be fed enough saline. If the patient vomits excessively, the patient should be brought to the hospital. Children who are not infected should be kept clean. Due to weather change, winter is coming, children should wear warm clothes.
